While Tokyo is not known for its sandy beaches and great surf. There are many beaches near Tokyo, to get out of the city and enjoy the sand and surf. There are many beaches that are easily accessible by trains and buses and it can make an enjoyable day trip. However, the beaches are very popular during the summer months, and the beaches closest to Tokyo can get very crowded. Here is a listing of the Tokyo Areas Beaches.

Tokyo Bay Beaches

There are a few man-made beaches in South Tokyo, and on the islands in Tokyo bay. Most of the beaches are for fun and recreation, suntanning, and swimming is not permitted at all of the Tokyo bay beaches.

Odaiba Seaside Beach Park

Odaiba Beach is a large man-made beach that is popular for sunbathing and beach sports, volleyball, etc. Great sunsets! Swimming is not allowed here. Location: 1-Chome-4 Daiba, Minato City, Tokyo Train Access: Tokyo Teleport Station, 11 min walk Google Maps

Shiokaze Park

Shiokaze Park is the largest park on the Tokyo waterfront area of Odaiba. It has a BBQ area (reservations needed in summer months) and it is popular for beach sports, volleyball, etc. There is a large water fountain for children to play in. Kasai Rinkai Park

Kasai Rinkai Park is a very popular seaside park. It has many attractions, including the largest Ferris Wheel in Japan that offers great views of the city There is a BBQ area (reservations needed in summer months), gardens and a beach that allows swimming if the water conditions permit. Jonanjima Seaside Park

Jonanjima Seaside Park is a large park on the Tokyo bay. It has a camping area (reservations required), a BBQ area (reservations needed in summer months), green areas and beaches. There are awesome views of the Tokyo bay and the related shipping and boating activities. This is also a great place to watch the airplanes flying in and out of Haneda Airport. Miura Peninsula Beaches

The Miura Peninsula beaches are the closest to the Tokyo area. These beaches are popular and can be very busy during the summer months.

Isshiki Beach

Isshiki Kaigan is a kilometer stretch of a volcanic grey beach. The water here is far cleaner than the water at other Shonan beaches, and the generally calm water makes it a nice spot for families with young children. Morito Beach

Morito Beach lies a few kilometers south of Zushi Beach. The Morito Shrine is located next to the beach, and the shore in front of the shrine offers nice views. Zushi Beach

Zushi Beach is a very popular beach. The beach offers swimming and sunbathing at its central and north end, while water sports like windsurfing take place around the south end of the beach. Kamakura Beaches

Yuigahama and Zaimokuza are two popular swimming beaches that are located beside one another on the coast of Kamakura. During the summer there are beach huts, bars, and rental shops. Enoshima Beaches

The Enoshima Beaches Katase Higashihama and Koshigoe beaches are very popular and they can be very packed. These beaches are filled with young people and they can be very lively. Shonan Coast Beaches

The Shonan Coast is a long strip of beaches that runs about 10 kilometers from Enoshima beach, south all the way down to Chigasaki.

Kugenuma Beach

Kugenuma Beach is one of the more popular surfing along the Shonan Coast. The beaches along the Shonan Coast are pretty mild and people can swim safely near the beach. There are volleyball courts set up on the beach for anyone to play on. During the summer there are beach huts, bars, and rental shops. Southern Chigasaki Beach

The Southern Chigasaki Beach is at the end of the Chigasaki Beach, that extends down the Shonan Coast about 6 kilometers from the Kugenuma Beach. There is a surfing area at the southern end, and the beaches are not as busy as the Miura Peninsula. During the summer there are beach huts, bars, and surf and boogie board rental shops. Chiba Peninsula Beaches

The Pacific Ocean Coast of the Chiba Peninsula has some very good beaches. The most famous area is the Kujukurihama Coast, which has over a 50-kilometer stretch that is made up of several beaches. 

Onjuku Beach

Onjuku Beach is a popular beach located in Onjuku. Swimming, bodyboarding, and surfing are popular activities here. This is a very family-friendly beach. Katakai Beach

Katakai Beach is located in the middle of the Kujukurihama Coast and is one of the most popular beaches in the area. There are some nice waves here and surfing and bodyboarding is popular. Okitsu Beach

Okitsu Beach has clean sand and shallow water. So, it’s a popular place for families to go. This beach is surrounded by green hills and white cliffs and is very scenic. Location: Okitsu Beach Katsuura, Chiba Train Access: Kazusa-Okitsu Station, 4 min walk Google Maps

Ubara Beach

Ubara Beach is like a huge cove as the beach goes around in a semi-circle facing the Pacific Ocean. This is a fairly calm beach that is family-friendly. It also has pieces of ceramics that have washed up on shore from a sunk ship that was carrying ceramics. Location: Ubara, Katsuura, Chiba Train Access: Ubara Station, 11 min walk Google Maps

Niemonjima Beach

Niemonjima Island beach is an interesting swimming spot. To get there you have to ride a quick ferry crossing that takes just a few minutes. Swimming and snorkeling are popular in the waters around the island. There is one store on the island that is both a restaurant and a rental shop. Wadaura Beach

Wadaura Beach has calm ocean waves that make it safe for children to swim and play in. There are many rocks near the beach that allow visitors to see the local sea life close up. Ichinomiya Beach

Ichinomiya Beach is one of the most popular surfing beaches on the Chiba Peninsula. There are good waves all year round here. Location: Ichinomiya, Chosei District, Chiba Train Access: Kazusa-Ichinomiya Station, bus 3 stops, 7 min walk Google Maps

Minami Chikura Beach

Minami Chikura Beach is on the southern tip of the Chiba Peninsula. Swimming, bodyboarding, and surfing are popular activities here. Nemoto Beach

Nemoto Beach is a campsite and a beach, all in one. Visitors can drive their camper vans or cars right onto the beach and set up tents. Nemoto Beach is very popular in the summer as it combines camping with beach activities. BBQ pits are also allowed on the beach. Hasama Beach

Hasama Beach faces Tateyama Bay on the western side of the Chiba Peninsula. The mellow waves and shallow waters make it a good beach for swimming and there is also a saltwater pool for children nearby. During the summer there are beach huts, bars, and rental shops. Okinoshima Island

Okinoshima Island is a small island connected to the mainland by a sandbar. Snorkeling and swimming are popular activities and its child-friendly. Many visitors set up their beach tents on the sandbar connecting the island with the mainland. During the summer there are beach huts, bars, and rental shops. Izu Peninsula Beaches

The Beaches on the Izu Penninsula are very popular with visitors from Tokyo, and the waters are clear and beautiful.

Shirahama Beach

Shirahama Beach is a fairly large beach that is the most popular beach on the Izu Peninsula. It can be very crowded in the summer months and the water is warm and clear. Tatadohama Beach

Tatadohama Beach is a very nice beach with clear waters and light-colored sand near the bottom of the Izu Peninsula. This is a popular surfing spot with good waves. The beach is surrounded by forests that provide a great view of the area. During the summer there are the usual beach huts, different bars, and surf rental shops. Kujuppama Beach

Kujuppama Beach is a small beach southeast of Shimoda. This beach is a challenge to get to but is family-friendly and popular with swimming and sunbathing visitors. Noribama Beach

Noribama Beach is a nice beach on the west side of the Izu Peninsula. There are numerous stone formations that make it very scenic. During summer there are beach huts for hire, great bars, and surfing rental shops. Ibaraki Prefecture Beaches

The Ibaraki Prefecture is north of Tokyo and easy to get to and the beaches are nice, and they are less crowded.

Oarai Sun Beach

Oarai Sun Beach is one of the largest and most popular beaches in Ibaraki Prefecture. It can be very crowded in the summer months. It is a nice safe beach with shallow waters and small waves. Hasaki Beach

Hasaki Beach is in the south of the Ibaraki Prefecture. This is a very large beach that has shallow waters and is popular with surfers and bodyboarders. Ajigaura Beach

Ajigaura Beach is a nice clean beach with coarse sand that is good for swimming in its calm waters. It is very large and not a crowded beach. It is also close to the Hitachi Seaside Park. Hiraiso Beach
