A video showing six rats running over packs of sushi and bento meals at a convenience store has gone viral.
The horrifying footage shows rodents scurrying over the packaged food at a FamilyMart in Shibuya, Toyko.
Black rats can bee seen roaming around the floor and crawling over baked goods on the shelf.
The country’s public broadcaster NHK said the videos had been viewed more than five million times.

FamilyMart issued a grovelling apology about the ‘unsanitary’ video and has shut the shop while an investigation is ongoing.
‘We apologize deeply for making you feel uncomfortable and uneasy,’ the statement read.
‘We take this case seriously and will stop our business on August 5 to investigate the cause.
‘We will take measures such as product removal and disposal with the guidance of the competent health centre.’

Management said they will carry out measures to prevent further rats from entering the shop.
‘In the future, we will proceed with measures such as disinfection, prevention work, in-store disinfection,’ they said.
‘We will consider the possibility of resuming operations in consideration of the surrounding environment of the store.’
